Default Is it wrong to move away from your children?

Quote:
As for staying near your children after divorce, I believe that is best for the kids, even older children. If *I* were divorced and my adult child were dying, I would uproot myself to be by their side. I just can't fathom not being by my child's side during such a time of need. I also can't fathom being married to someone so toxic who believed my child didn't need me due to their age
Another great debate topic by Strawberry Shortcake.

Do you feel that getting remarried, when your children are in their 20's is irresponsible to your children?

Do you feel that a parent should always live near their children? What should the parent do if the child moves?

Do you look down on parents who have adult children who don't quit their jobs, sell their houses and move to where their adult children live to be with them while they die? If a person doesn't do this, do you see them as toxic?

Children in their TWENTIES?
No, you shouldn't feel that you have to live near them. I would probably want to, but I wouldn't feel obligated to.
Little kids in a divorce? Yeah, I think you should stay near them if you can. As a matter of fact, a non-custodial parent in my state can file in court to prevent a custodial parent from moving out of state with minor children.

This though; "Do you look down on parents who have adult children who don't quit their jobs, sell their houses and move to where their adult children live to be with them while they die?"
Yeah, I do look down on them. If my adult child were dying I would move heaven and earth to be with them.

Moving away from minor children...not a good idea.

Moving away from adult children, um, I would.

This. As an adult who has moved away from her parents (and is going to be doing so again in a few months), I see nothing wrong with either party moving when it's adults involved. The world is not that big... everywhere is just a plane ride away.

For extenuating circumstances, though, like when someone is dying, yes, I'd want to be with my adult child!

And yes, as I stated in the other thread, I'd want to be with my adult child if they were dying. IMO, it's a total cunt of a parent who couldn't be bothered to be with their dying child, young or old.

I actually think it is really sucky for parents to want to move away from their adult children and grandchildren. Especially if said child left her life behind in CT to move to ME to be with her family. In that case I think that moving to Europe is definitely a crappy thing to do. Not that I have any experience with that or anything.
